Lath : A success story

The Indo German Watershed Development Project supported by NABARD, at the village Lath(K) is successfully implemented for 5 years and reached the phase of accomplishment. As per the norms, the NABARD insists that a 5 per cent of the total grant of funds must be spent on village development.

Prosperity through Dairy Development

The Gram sabha in a resolution decided to spend 40 per cent of the amount for women empowerment and the rest on village development. SSM has been able to endeavor multitasks in the Rural Development with careful management of the funds and resources. After a thorough screening, 30 women beneficiaries from 15 SHGs were given the financial assistance to purchase buffaloes, through which they could earn their livelihood. The National Dairy Development Board, Nanded came forward to run a milk collection center at the village itself. These developments enabled 30 families in the village live a life of dignity and financial sustenance “The women empowerment initiative is a boon to our community.  Now we are no more parasites,” say Mrs. Lalita Ghorband and Mrs. Anasuya Ingole, both are the members of village Self Help Groups.

Self Help Groups – A life line

The Watershed Development Projects run by SSM integrate the women empowerment in the jurisdiction. Apart from constituting 22 Self Help Groups for women, the project executives helped them develop a welfare fund through savings. The fund is used to extend financial assistance to the identified beneficiaries. In addition, training and demos in the relevant fields of self employment are also arranged to help them develop vocational skills. The ‘Laxmi’ Self Help Group, financed to One of its members, Mrs. Jayasri to set up a machine that stitches Leaf-plates and Leaf-bowls. This day she comfortably earns around Rs. 7500/- a month. She is Happy and independent now!!

Solar lamps brighten the village streets

Gone are the days, when the samiti of Village Lath(K) would desperately await the power supply even after the long 18hrs of power cut a day! For whatever reasons, the power distribution agency in Maharashtra consistently failed to provide electricity supply for at least a few hours a day. Everybody seemed helpless but not now!!
The villagers have learnt to explore new ways instead of crying over the spilt milk. The Unanimous resolution taken by the Gram Sabha, made it possible to spend 60% of the village development fund granted by the NABARD for the erection of solar lamp posts, panels and the batteries. This day 13 sets of solar lamps shed the gloomy darkness in the village streets that ruled for years. Thanks to NABARD.
